Natural unglazed fired clay tiles are often called Terracotta tiles, which literally means, "cooked earth”. Because this type of tile was so popular, any brownish-orange colour has also been called Terracotta which are durable paving and wall tiles. 

At Middle Earth we use basic materials of natural clay and fire to make pure Natural Terracotta tiles, we mould clay into shapes which are then fired at over 1200c in a kiln, with nothing added but water.

The different colours and tones of the Middle Earth Terracotta range come naturally from the colours of the clay as well as firing techniques and temperature. These are natural terracotta tiles with colour and are found all through the tile.
